Medical marijuana billboard ads could be banned
State Senator Rick Jones says billboards advertising medical marijuana are sending a harmful message to kids and adults.
"All over the capital city of Lansing as you drive around, you see giant billboards that advertise 'High Michigan," says Jones. "And they're talking about getting high on medical marijuana. It would be the same as if you had billboards that said 'get high on opioids' that you take for pain medication."
Jones says he does not oppose the use of marijuana for legitimate medical reasons, but he doesn't support its use for recreation. He thinks the billboards could lead to that.
Jones has introduced a bill to ban the ads. It's also been introduced in the House by Democratic state Representative Andy Schor.
Jones says his committee will hold a hearing on the bill in the fall.
