Governor Rick Snyder wants a federal disaster declaration for eight Michigan counties affected by severe flooding in February. He's already issued disaster declarations at the state level for Grand Rapids (pictured), Lansing, and 17 Michigan counties.

Gov. Rick Snyder wants a federal disaster declaration for eight Michigan counties affected by severe flooding last month. He's asking the federal Small Business Administration to study the damage caused by heavy rainfall and snow melt Feb. 19-21.

If approved, the disaster assistance program would provide money and low-interest loans to repair homes and businesses.

Earlier this week, Snyder issued disaster declarations at the state level for 17 Michigan counties and the cities of Grand Rapids and Lansing.
