Attorney General Dana Nessel wants to talk with John Engler, the former interim president of Michigan State University.

Engler resigned Wednesday night. He made heavily criticized remarks about survivors “enjoying” the “spotlight” last week.

Kelly Rossman-McKinney is a spokeswoman for Nessel. She says the attorney general made the decision on Monday after being briefed by the team investigating how MSU internally handled the Larry Nassar scandal.

She says Nessel is hopeful Engler will consent to an interview.

“So, there is certainly an anticipation that there will be greater transparency and cooperation, not just with the departure of President Engler, but there appears to be a renewed commitment at the board level,” she says.

The special prosecutor who handled the investigation under Attorney General Bill Schuette did not interview Engler.

The investigation into MSU has yielded criminal charges against three former MSU officials.
