Michigan’s Emergency Manager Law has sparked debate, national news coverage, and a petition drive to put the issue on the ballot this November. Michigan Radio’s Senior Political Analyst Jack Lessenberry will host a discussion on this controversial measure at Michigan Radio’s next Issues & Ale event on Monday, March 26 at Blackstone’s Pub in downtown Flint. The event starts at 6 p.m. Panelists will present both sides of the issue, and audience members will have a chance to ask questions and join in the discussion.
Confirmed panelists for the event include Brandon A. Jessup - Chairman and CEO of Michigan Forward, and Dr. Eric Scorsone - Extension Specialist at Michigan State University. Michigan Forward is a Detroit-based progressive think tank and advocacy group that has been the guiding force behind a petition drive aimed at repealing the law. Dr. Eric Scorsone is an economist and faculty member for State & Local Government at Michigan State University, whose work focuses on assisting communities in the areas of state and local public finance and strategic planning. Dr. Scorsone has also worked with the Michigan Department of Treasury to develop and deliver training programs for Michigan’s Emergency Managers. Additional panelists are still to be announced.
Issues and Ale is an event series co-sponsored by Michigan Radio and the Center for Michigan designed to engage people in conversations about important issues facing Michigan...in an informal atmosphere. Previous events in the series have been held in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Lansing, metro Detroit and Holland, with topics including campaign ads, priorities for state government, K-12 education in Michigan, and the future of renewable energy.
