BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - Officials in Bay City are looking forward to returning to City Hall, three years after a fire damaged the historic building.

The Bay City Times reports that work is expected to wrap up in late November, and move-in could happen in time for Christmas.

An attic fire triggered the sprinkler system at Bay City Hall on Oct. 12, 2010. The damage it caused set in motion a three-year process of repair, restoration and renovation.

Since the fire, the City Commission has held its meetings in the Pere Marquette Building while files, employees and city services have taken up temporary quarters in other buildings.

Insurance money is covering the restoration costs, which are in the millions of dollars.

City Hall was built in the 1880s.
