Primary day: What's at stake for Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan?

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan
City of Detroit

Tomorrow is primary election day across the state.

There are more than six million registered voters, but it's predicted fewer than a million people will actually head to the polls.

A low turnout election means small things. Sometimes even just one thing can have a big impact on how a race turns out.

And, in a bunch of closely watched races, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is hoping he is that one thing.

Rick Pluta is the Lansing Bureau Chief for the Michigan Public Radio Network and a co-host of It’s Just Politics. He explained what Duggan had to do with the races.

“If Duggan’s chosen ones don’t do well tomorrow, then that shows he’s got some organization building to do,” Pluta said.
