New year, new Legislature, same issues
This Week in Politics, Emily Fox and Jack Lessenberry discuss how 2015 is shaping up for Michigan. The Legislature is new, but many of the state’s problems are the same.
The Michigan Legislature will ring in 2015 with an overwhelming Republican majority.
Republicans picked up five seats in the House and one in the Senate after the mid-term elections, giving the party a 27-11 advantage.
Lansing’s newest lawmakers include anti-abortion activist Gary Glenn as well as prominent Tea Party members Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat.
Lessenberry said it’ll be interesting to see whether Governor Rick Snyder “butts heads” with the new, more conservative Legislature.
