Governor Rick Snyder has signed legislation that moves Michigan's 2016 Republican presidential primary to March 8.

The bills were signed as Republicans prepare to gather in Lansing this weekend for their winter state party convention.

The Republican state central committee has already voted to use next year's taxpayer-funded primary to help choose the Republican presidential nominee.

Delegates will be apportioned based on their percentage of the primary vote. Democrats can participate in the primary, but are expected to opt out in favor of caucuses.
