US Rep. Moolenaar says Dems must fund DHS
U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar, R-Michigan, says it's not his party's fault if the Department of Homeland Security runs out of money.
It has to get new funding before the end of this week to stay open.
House Republicans passed a bill to fund DHS, but it had a poison pill: reversing President Obama's plans to protect millions of undocumented immigrants from deportation.
“We put language in there that says we don't want to fund illegal activities," said Moolenaar. "And a judge has even put a halt on the president's actions, so there is a legitimate question to be answered.”
A Texas federal judge temporarily blocked the president’s executive orders.
Moolenaar says now it's time for the Senate to act.
"It's very important that they move this forward and debate it and pass whatever funding they believe should be in the Department of Homeland Security."
Democrats say Republicans are putting DHS in jeopardy by tying immigration to its budget.
