The historic Guardian Building, which houses several Wayne County offices in downtown Detroit, may soon have a "for sale" sign in its window.

The county said it plans to gauge buyer interest in the iconic Art Deco building over the next two months.

So, what's the sticker price for a 40-story historic skyscraper?

Lloyd Jackson with the Wayne County Executive Office said it's too soon to tell.

"Whatever it is, it would have to be a price that would retire the outstanding bonds that are still on it, which are about $65 million," Jackson said.

Last month, a report by private firm O'Keefe LLC, said the building is only "significantly under-utilized" and "probably never should have been purchased for its intended use.

Wayne County purchased the Guardian Building for $14 million in 2007.
