Gov. Rick Snyder says the state government faces 2.5 million cyber-attacks every day.

Snyder spoke at the opening of an international cyber security summit in Detroit on Monday.

He says there are a couple reasons the state has seen more attacks in recent years.

“I believe we actually are getting attacked more,” said Snyder.

“But secondly, we’ve improved our practices to actually detect more attacks – because that’s something out there that we probably are attacked even more than two-and-a-half million times a day.”

Snyder says the state has made major technology improvements in recent years to prevent the attacks.

Earlier this year, hackers affiliated with the group Anonymous tried unsuccessfully to crash the state’s website to call attention to contaminated water in Flint.
