Vice President Mike Pence was the keynote speaker at a campaign event in Traverse City on Friday. In his speech, he said he views winning Michigan as key to securing President Donald Trump’s re-election bid.

“Michigan said ‘yes’ to President Donald Trump in 2016, and I know Michigan’s going to say ‘yes’ to four more years of President Donald Trump in 2020,” Pence said.

Pence added that he expects to have a coronavirus vaccine by the end of the year.

The rally drew hundreds of people to the AvFlight air hangar at Cherry Capital Airport, most of whom weren’t wearing masks or practicing social distancing.

Several Republican lawmakers and candidates were also in attendance and spoke, including Republican Senate candidate John James and U.S. Representative Jack Bergman (R-Watersmeet) who led the crowd in a chant of “four more years.”

“There’s no one better to bring back our jobs and lead our national comeback, than President Donald J. Trump.” Bergman said.

President Trump narrowly won Michigan in 2016.
