Lawmakers lay out proposed nursing home regulations
State lawmakers are out with new nursing home legislation a day after a task force delivered its own recommendations for the industry.
Michigan’s nursing homes have been hard hit by COVID-19. Residents in care facilities account for about a third of Michigan’s COVID-19 deaths.
State Representative Leslie Love (D-Detroit) says the bill package compliments the list of 28 recommendations that a special task force delivered to Governor Gretchen Whitmer this week.
“What the task force presented to us are recommendations. They are a foundation...a starting point,” says Love. “Now the task is for legislators to do the work.”
The bills address a wide range of issues, like increasing wages for care facility employees.
One of the bills also revises Michigan's regional hub policy for nursing home patients with COVID-19.
