Katherine Mary Nepton is an attorney in private practice, who focuses on estate and Medicaid planning, Social Security, trusts, wills and powers of attorney, according to her profile on LinkedIn.
Michigan Radio made multiple attempts to contact Nepton to schedule an interview, but did not get a response.

All of the current Michigan Supreme Court justices are white, and Nepton is the only person of color in the field of seven candidates. On her campaign website, she describes herself as "a member of the Pekuakamiulnuatsh Band, more commonly known as Montagnais."
Nepton is the first Indigenous candidate for state Supreme Court, according to the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society.
