AG Nessel wants lawyers who sued to overturn MI election results disciplined
Following the November presidential election, Republican lawyers filed a string of lawsuits in battleground states – including here in Michigan.
Their goal was to attempt to throw out results in order to re-elect President Donald Trump.
The effort did not work. Judges said the lawsuits lacked evidence or contained misinformation.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says she believes the lawyers who filed mistake-filled briefs should face sanctions.
“You know if you will have your name attached to it, and you have made intentional misrepresentations of facts to the court, I absolutely believe that you ought to be held accountable.”
Nessel says she plans to file complaints with the attorney grievance commission. She says that's because the lawsuits contained deliberate misinformation.
“In some of these cases, absolutely. We will be asking for sanctions. We'll be asking for court costs and attorney's fees.”
Nessel says the sanctions will be sought against any attorney whose name appeared on the lawsuits.
