Bacon: Don't blame Harbaugh, Rutgers is just that bad, plus Western Michigan goes national (video)

Oct 10, 2016

It was a big weekend for football around the Great Lakes State. The University of Michigan stole most of the headlines with an historic 78-0 road win over Rutgers. It was a dominant win in just about every phase of the game as the Wolverines "took the paddle" (as John U. Bacon likes to say) to the Scarlet Knights.

After a one-sided loss, there are always fans and sportswriters who like to criticize the head coach for running up the score. However, John U. Bacon said in his weekly segment on Stateside, it wasn't Jim Harbaugh being a bad sport.

Michigan was up 43-0 at halftime, and Harbaugh took out all of his starters and just ran the ball the rest of the game. The problem was, even though they knew it was coming, Rutgers couldn't stop them as the Wolverines scored a program-record nine rushing touchdowns.

Elsewhere, Michigan State's disappointing season and Western Michigan's dream season both continued on Saturday. Michigan State lost to BYU 31-14, while the Broncos beat Northern Illinois 45-30 to remain undefeated at 6-0. With the win, WMU cracked the AP Top 25 for the first time in the school's history.

To add to the glory for Broncos fans, star wide receiver Corey Davis continues to make national headlines. On Saturday, his amazing one-handed touchdown catch was named the top play on ESPN. Check out the video of the catch below.

Despite Michigan State's struggles (they are now 2-3 on the season), Bacon says don't count out the Spartans when it comes to the Oct. 29 showdown in East Lansing with Michigan. MSU has a habit of beating the Wolverines when their rivals in Ann Arbor are heavy favorites.

Listen to the full interview above to hear Bacon's take on the Detroit Lions' dramatic win over the previously unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles, Brad Ausmus signing a contract extension with the Detroit Tigers and how Michigan's big win cost Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Ann Arbor a lot of money.
