Governor's executive order to close salons, spas, tattoo and piercing shops

Governor Gretchen Whitmer ordered hair and nail salons, tattoo and massage parlors closed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19

Governor Gretchen Whitmer is ordering salons to close to help slow the spread of the novel coronavirus in Michigan.

The order includes nail and hair salons, spas, tanning and massage businesses, plus tattoo and body piercing shops. Really, any "non-essential personal care service" place that requires people to be within six feet of each other.

"COVID-19 has created an unprecedented challenge to our way of life as Michiganders," said Gov. Whitmer in a written statement. "That's why we are making decisions based on science and facts to protect public health and keep people safe. I know these changes will be hard, but they are temporary, and they are necessary to slow the spread of the virus and help save lives."

The executive order take effect Sunday morning and runs through April 13th.
