Inmate mistakenly released from Oakland County Jail

Aug 25, 2016

Update 5:30 p.m.:

The Michigan Department of Corrections says Johnny Rodgers is back in custody following an arrest this afternoon.

Original post 3:35 p.m.:

The search is on for a convicted felon who was mistakenly released from a suburban Detroit jail on Wednesday evening.

Johnny Rodgers is serving a seven- to 15-year sentence for assault with intent to commit murder, armed robbery and felony firearms charges in Wayne County.

Rodgers, 25, was in Oakland County custody for a court appearance stemming from separate charges. He was supposed to have been returned to state custody afterwards but was released instead.

"A deputy in the booking section apparently missed the MDOC detainer," the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said, in a statement. "There is a Sheriff's Office internal investigation ongoing regarding the release in error."

The Michigan Department of Corrections, Michigan State Police and U.S. Marshals Service are working together to track down Rodgers, who is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call 911 or the Michigan State Police at 1-855-MICH-TIP.
