Joel Langlois ends campaign for Justin Amash's Congressional seat

Feb 14, 2020

West Michigan businessman Joel Langlois ends his campaign to take Justin Amash’s congressional seat.

Langlois was in a crowded field of Republican candidates running for the seat currently held by the now Independent Amash.

Langlois posted on his Facebook page yesterday that he is dropping out of the race for personal reasons.

He and his campaign did not respond to a request for comment, but Langlois says he will continue to support President Donald Trump.

“I will continue to fight for and pray for our conservative values, for our Republic, and for our President,” Langlois said in a Facebook post.

Here is his full Facebook post:

After many days of thoughtful consideration, prayer, and discussion with my family, I am announcing that I am suspending my campaign for Congress.

When I started this campaign, I did so because I believe that Michigan’s 3rd District deserves to have real conservative representation in Washington, DC. I believed then (and continue to believe now) that we need honest, hard-working representatives who are more like the people they represent.

I made a commitment to my family that I would run a truthful and honest campaign that focused on positive messages about myself. I also committed to them that I would not use the tactics of today’s politics by smearing my opponents with lies and out-of-context sound bites. I am confident stating that I have lived up to that commitment.

I am suspending the campaign for personal reasons.

Over the past 9 months, I have had the immense pleasure of meeting many wonderful people. I have been humbled by the support of so many. The feeling that I am letting those supporters down makes this decision very difficult. It is my sincere hope that my supporters will take the same energy and enthusiasm that they brought to my campaign and use it to help our Republican ticket win in November.

I encourage everyone to continue to hold our elected officials accountable. Our current congressman has demonstrated he does not want to be accountable to his constituents in the Third District. We need to elect a Representative who will. I also encourage you to support the candidate who demonstrates integrity, who is truthful about themselves, and who will work to earn your vote instead of trying to convince you to vote against their opponent.

I will continue to fight for and pray for our conservative values, for our Republic, and for our President.

Amash made headlines in 2019 for being one of the first Republicans to say President Trump should be impeached. Amash is running again, but this time as an Independent.

Republicans Peter Meijer, Lynn Afendoulis and Tom Norton are all still in the race.
