New city ordinances pertaining to pedestrians and cyclists in Kalamazoo go into effect June 1.

Drivers in Kalamazoo will be required to stop for pedestrians and cyclists who are in or waiting to enter any crosswalk that does not have traffic control.

The changes also permit bicycles to ride on sidewalks unless specifically prohibited.

Pedestrians and bicyclists will be required to stop before entering a crosswalk.

Signs will be installed at key intersections throughout the city to notify drivers of the changes.

At crosswalks that do have traffic signals, all road users and pedestrians must follow those signals.
