Dave Coulter is the county executive for Oakland County. He says that expanding the policy is not just the morally correct thing to do.
"It's also the right thing to do economically. I know that if we're going to keep our young people here in this region, if we're going to create employees to go to the great jobs that we have in Oakland County, our employers understand the value of doing this."
Dave Woodward is the chairman of the Oakland County board of commissioners. He says Oakland County should lead on issues of equal treatment at the local level because little progress has been made at the state and federal level.
"It's outrageous in 2019 that we're still actually dealing with this, and in Oakland County, we made a decision that we weren't going to wait. Oakland County is prepared to lead on this issue and protect the rights and fair treatment of all people."
