While a million or so people lined Woodward Avenue this weekend for the annual Dream Cruise, another big group of car fans made their way to the Michigan International Speedway for some NASCAR heaven: the Pure Michigan 400.

Matt Kenseth won the race. He started at the front of the race, and ended up at the front.

Benjamin Raven of MLive said NASCAR implemented some race changes for MIS that were supposed to generate more passing, and increase the competitiveness of the race.

“You can see it had the opposite effect toward the front. [Kenseth’s] crew chief after the race was saying that there was a lot of passing in the middle of the pack and toward the rear. But Kenseth … said he didn’t see much of the race rather than what he could see from his rearview mirror,” said Raven.

Raven says they won’t use these rules for the “Chase for the Sprint Cup.”

It was also Jeff Gordon’s final race at MIS. The veteran driver has had a lot of success at MIS. He announced this is his last season as a full-time driver. Fans stood in his honor on lap 24.
