Today, on Stateside, the mayor of Windsor, Ontario has a creative solution for getting excess Detroit vaccine doses to Canadians: a vaccine clinic in the Detroit-Windsor tunnel. Plus, a historian from the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians talks about the enduring legacy of Tecumseh, the Shawnee leader who united Native tribes against settler expansion. And, we dig into the job market during the pandemic recovery.

The province of Ontario in Canada is now under a four-week shutdown due to the rise in COVID-19 cases. The threat to our neighbors in Windsor is due, in part, to the daily border crossing between Windsor and Detroit.

“We have thousands of nurses and health care workers who live on the Canadian side of the border, but work largely in Detroit at the hospital networks there, the health networks. They're providing an essential service for Michiganders,” said Doug Schmidt, a reporter for the Windsor Star.

U.S. border officials are reminding Michiganders it is still illegal to transport marijuana across the border, despite recreational cannabis being legal now in Canada.

Wednesday morning, Canada became the second and largest country with a legal national marijuana marketplace.  Uruguay was the first country to legalize recreational marijuana.

Sales started just after midnight local time in Newfoundland, Canada's easternmost province.

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel will be undergoing renovations during the next few months.

Officials with the border crossing between Detroit and Canada said Friday that the work will primarily take place at night and won't affect morning and evening commuter traffic. The tunnel has put in place additional commercial height restrictions.

Projects will include upgrades to the communication system and masonry work to the tunnel's ceiling. Recent work has included installation of new lighting, electrical and mechanical systems and an enhanced camera system.

DETROIT (AP) - The tunnel linking Detroit and Canada will close on Sunday so police can hold drills.

According to MLive.com, the Detroit-Windsor tunnel will be shut down for three hours in the morning.

The Detroit Department of Homeland Security calls it an "annual tunnel exercise."

Thousands of vehicles cross between Detroit and Windsor via the tunnel each day.

The next two nearest Canadian border crossings are the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit and the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron.
