In a brief filed Tuesday, federal prosecutors say they have new evidence for a possible retrial of State Rep. Larry Inman (R-Williamsburg). At his original trial last year, Inman was found not guilty of lying to the F.B.I., but the jury couldn't reach a verdict on two other corruption charges.

Federal prosecutors say they will pursue a retrial in the case of a state legislator accused of soliciting a bribe and attempted extortion.

State Rep. Larry Inman (R-Williamsburg) allegedly tried to get campaign contributions in exchange for changing his vote on legislation to repeal the state’s “prevailing wage” law.

The secretary of state announced Thursday night that the group didn’t have enough signatures on their petition. Hundreds were tossed out over typos and legibility concerns.

State Representative Larry Inman (R-Williamsburg) is headed to trial this week. Inman is accused of trying to sell his vote on a controversial measure. He’s been charged with multiple federal crimes, including lying to law enforcement. Soon after he was indicted, the state House stripped Inman of his committee positions and took away his Lansing office. But Inman has refused to step down from his position. His attorney maintains his innocence.

A law to recall politicians needs to be changed. That’s the assessment of a group trying to recall Representative Larry Inman (R-Williamsburg). He faces federal charges of soliciting bribes, attempted extortion and lying to the FBI.

The state changed the recall requirements in 2012. The period of time to collect signatures was cut from 90 days to 60 days. A recall campaign cannot begin until the elected official has served six months in office.

Representative Larry Inman (R-Traverse City) pleaded not guilty to multiple federal charges Tuesday. Inman appeared in court for the first time for charges of attempted extortion, soliciting a bribe, and lying to the FBI.

Inman was indicted by a grand jury earlier this month.
