Former Macomb County prosecutor Eric Smith pled guilty to one count of obstruction of justice in federal court Wednesday.

His plea hearing was conducted by video conference in front of U.S. District Court Judge Linda V. Parker.

Smith admitted that he tried to get a friend and two of his assistant county proscutors to lie to federal law enforcement officers and to a federal grand jury in an effort to hide his own criminal conduct.

A former Macomb County politician is facing up to ten years behind bars after pleading guilty to federal theft and extortion charges.

Dino Bucci was former Macomb County Public Works Director Anthony Marrocco’s right-hand man for more than 20 years. And he was an elected Macomb Township trustee.

The Michigan State Police raided the offices of Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith Wednesday.

A State Police spokesman confirmed that investigators executed a search warrant at Smith’s office.

The state Attorney General’s office is investigating Smith’s alleged misuse of asset forfeiture funds.

Michigan Representatives Steve Marino and Jeff Yaroch have begun the process of impeaching Macomb Township Trustee Dino Bucci because of his absence from his duties for the past nine months.

Bucci was indicted by a federal grand jury in 2017 on 18 counts of conspiracy, bribery, embezzlement, extortion, mail fraud, and money laundering. Those charges were in connection with public contracts for Macomb Township and the Macomb County Department of Public Works. 

According to Yaroch, an appeal to Governor Rick Snyder to remove Bucci from office yielded no response.

A jury has found a former Clinton Township trustee guilty on fourteen bribery charges in a “pay-to-play” public corruption case.

PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - A rogue trash hauler who bribed public officials to protect his business in suburban Detroit has been sentenced to 5 1/2 years in federal prison.

Chuck Rizzo paid off officials in Macomb County and also stole $900,000 from the company, formerly known as Rizzo Environmental Services, when it was controlled by out-of-state investors.

Rizzo was sentenced Monday in federal court in Port Huron. He says, "I have let many people down."

A former Detroit Police Department Deputy Chief and legal advisor today pleaded guilty to accepting bribe money from the owner of a towing company.

Celia Washington’s attorney says Washington accepted $3,000 from Gasper Fiore more than two years ago, initially believing she was taking a loan from a friend.

The owner of multiple Southeast Michigan towing companies pleaded guilty Wednesday to paying bribes to a Macomb County official to in order to get a municipal towing contract.

Gasper Fiore pleaded guilty to conspiracy. He admitted to paying $7,000 to Dean Reynolds, a trustee in Macomb County's Clinton Township.

The federal government has dropped its biggest, highest-profile indictment yet in the sprawling Macomb County corruption investigation.

Dino Bucci, 58, was a Macomb Township trustee for 16 years until this past December. He was also a manager with the county’s Department of Public Works, and well-known as longtime former Public Works Commissioner Anthony Marrocco’s close associate.
