Skateboarding has long been associated with graffiti-covered parks and Vans-clad teenage boys, but a program at the Ann Arbor Skatepark is working to change that stereotype.

Next month marks the one year anniversary of the opening of the Ann Arbor Skatepark.

With spring weather, skateboarders from all over the city are busting kick flips and shredding the bowls. 

Nicholas Williams stepped on his skateboard and strapped on a microphone to bring us these sounds and stories from the park.

Right now, skateboarding is banned in downtown Grand Rapids. But advocates say skateboards, longboards, roller skates, and roller blades are just like any other kind of non-motorized transportation. They say they should be allowed on downtown streets just like bicycles.

The Grand Rapids City Commission is considering the proposed change. It will hold a public hearing at city hall Tuesday night.
