BANGOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Bay County is planning another public forum as part of an ongoing effort to deal with a heroin epidemic as declared by the health department and law enforcement officials in June.

The Bay City Times reports the summit Thursday at the John Glenn High School Auditorium in Bangor Township is the fifth such meeting since December. People who attend are encouraged to join a panel of experts from Bay County to discuss heroin trends. Topics to be addressed include prevention, law enforcement, medical response, health concerns and resources for families.

The county health department issued a public health advisory to advisory in June because of a growing opioid addiction epidemic, saying there had been a spike in overdose cases.
