Former Vice President Joe Biden held a rally in Lansing on Thursday night. Biden was in town to stump for Democratic candidates.
It was something of a somber rally. Biden spoke in a hushed voice due to what he said was laryngitis. He held the audience’s quiet attention while speaking about the importance of service and the need to overcome violence and hatred.
But Biden was able to speak up to tell the crowd why they have to vote on Tuesday.
“We have to make it clear that we Democrats choose hope over fear,” he said.
He spoke at length about recent violence and attacks happening in the U.S.
“The only thing strong enough to tear America apart is America itself, and we’ve seen it start. We have to make it stop. That’s what Tuesday’s all about,” he said.
Pipe bombs were recently sent to Biden and other prominent Democrats. Last week, there was also a deadly attack on members of a synagogue in Pittsburgh.
Biden talked about how America has changed recently. But he says that’s not how America really is, and the divisiveness needs to end.
“Get the hell up. Go out and vote. Take it back, now, now, now, now,” he urged the audience.
Republican candidates in Michigan were scheduled to have a visit on Thursday from President Trump’s counselor Kellyanne Conway. But Conway wasn’t able to come due to what party officials say was an “aircraft malfunction.”
