Conservative group pickets U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow's offices
A conservative group picketed outside U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow’s offices in East Lansing and Flint today.
The focus of the protests was Stabenow’s support for the federal health care law.
A handful of protesters calmly chanted “Hands off my health care” during a noon hour demonstration outside Stabenow’s East Lansing office.
The protest was organized by Americans for Prosperity, a conservative group founded by billionaires David and Charles Koch. AFP has spent tens of millions of dollars promoting conservative causes and attacking Democrats' positions on a broad range of issues, including the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Annie Patnaude is AFP’s deputy state director. She expects AFP will continue to keep pressure on Stabenow.
“We’re certainty going to spend significant resources just educating citizens about (her) record,” says Patnaude.
Stabenow’s office issued a statement simply saying the senator “values the input of her constituents.”
Stabenow - a Democrat - is running for reelection. Next month, Michigan Republicans will pick a nominee to face her in November’s general election.
