The struggling Detroit Lions have shaken up the front office.

Lions president Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew were fired on Thursday.

Team owner Martha Firestone Ford announced the moves and did not take questions from reporters.

“Earlier today, we informed Tom Lewand and Martin Mayhew that they have been relieved of their responsibilities with the team. We thank them both for their many years of service to the team and to our Family," Ford said in a written statement. "We are very disappointed with the results of the season so far and believe a change in leadership was necessary."

Sheldon White will be the team's acting general manager, reporting directly to Ford.

The Lions are an NFC-worst 1-7 under second-year coach Jim Caldwell, whose staff was not affected by the changes.
