DFT president dismisses recall push

There’s a push to recall the head of the Detroit Federation of Teachers.

Steve Conn has been on the job since January.  But the DFT president has ruffled a lot of feathers with his confrontational style.

For example, Conn has led rallies against proposed changes to union health plans, including one today at the state capitol.

Conn dismisses the recall effort, saying it’s led by “a few disgruntled, very confused” union members without a plan.

“I guess they're interested in giving up their health care,” says Conn, “because that’s all that leads to.”

Health care is a big issue right now for Detroit teachers.

Emergency Manager Darnell Earley wants to increase deductibles and co-pays.

Other union leaders say they would rather negotiate contract changes with, rather than picket, district and government officials.
