What’s being called an ‘Eds and Meds’ strategy is paying off for people trying to revitalize Flint’s downtown.
Many downtown buildings in Flint are empty. But local economic development leaders say they are making progress by attracting educational and medical investment.
The ‘Eds and Meds’ strategy is intended to not only bring in jobs, but also create activity and excitement, in a downtown in need of all three.
Betsy Aderholdt is the CEO of the Genesys Health System. She sees a great deal of potential for working with nearby University of Michigan-Flint and Michigan State University’s School of Public Health, which is planning on setting down roots of its own in downtown Flint soon.
“Being part of that Eds and Meds strategy, as part of the revitalization strategy for downtown Flint, was part of our strategic vision,” says Aderholdt.
This month, Genesys opened a new three million dollar clinic in downtown Flint. The facility will provide a variety of services, including a pharmacy and urgent care.
