Former MSU President Lou Anna Simon has been charged with lying to police.

The Lansing State Journal reports Simon was charged today in Eaton County District Court with two felony counts and two misdemeanor counts. She is the third person charged by the Attorney General’s Office as part of its investigation of the university related to Larry Nassar.

She faces up to four years in prison if convicted.

Simon told State Police investigators that she was only aware that in 2014 a sports medicine doctor was the subject of a Title IX investigation.

According to the charging document filed by the AG's Office, she knew it was Nassar who was the subject of that 2014 investigation.

Simon stepped down as MSU President last January amid harsh criticism at how former sports doctor Larry Nassar could sexually abuse women and girls for almost 20 years and her handling of the situation. She was officially taking a year to focus on research as her contract phased out.

A spokesperson for the university said in a press release: "We are aware of the charges brought today against former President Simon. She is taking an immediate leave of absence, without pay, to focus on her legal situation."

Simon is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at the 56A District Court in Eaton County.
