United Ways of Michigan preparing to help workers affected by GM strike

Sep 20, 2019

United Ways in Michigan are preparing to help workers affected by the UAW- GM strike.

If the strike goes on, workers will get $250 per week in strike pay, and their health care benefits have already been cut.

Mike Larson of the Michigan Association of United Ways says they’ve already gotten some calls for assistance.

“We’re trying to connect and utilize every resource that we have, and partner, to help us support dislocated workers,” Larson says.

He adds that United Ways are also preparing for the possibility that state workers could be furloughed if a budget isn’t passed in the coming weeks.

Larson says anyone in need of help can call 211 to be connected to services.
