Today on Stateside, the trial of Kathie Klages has begun. The longtime coach for the Michigan State University women’s gymnastics team is accused of lying to police during an investigation into Larry Nassar. Plus, the national debate over new gun control measures has led to some Michigan municipalities to adopt “sanctuary county” resolutions for gun rights.

Michigan State University is paying the legal bills for three former officials who have been indicted on charges related to former MSU sports doctor Larry Nassar.

The Lansing State Journal reports that the university has been billed $19.7 million for Nassar-related legal fees so far. The school is covering all or part of the legal fees for former President Lou Anna Simon, former gymnastics coach Kathie Klages, and former Dean William Strampel.

Michigan State University continues to deal with the fallout from employing one of the most prolific serial sexual predators of the modern era. On Thursday, a judge will decide if there is enough evidence to send ex-MSU gymnastics coach Kathie Klages to trial on charges of lying to law enforcement during its investigation into Larry Nassar.
